About Novamox® DT

Rating of sales:

Novamox® DT manufacturer is Cipla.

Novamox® DT active ingredient is Amoxicillin – a semisynthetic antibiotic belonging to the drug class called Aminopenicillins, bactericidal beta-lactam antibiotics, which work by blocking bacterial cell wall synthesis.

- infections of the ear, nose, and throat;

- genitourinary tract infections (urethritis);

- skin and soft tissue infections;

- lower respiratory tract infections;

- Gonorrhea, acute uncomplicated (ano-genital and urethral infections);

- Helicobacter pylori eradication.

Novamox® DT has shown a greater efficacy in the treatment of children with severe cases of pneumonia compared to treatment with Co-trimoxazole. In addition, Novamox® DT is often used as an adjuvant in the treatment for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).

Novamox® DT will not be effective for viral infections like common cold or flu, or for yeast infection.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Amoxicillin kills the bacteria by destroying their cell wall. Namely, it prevents the synthesis of a substance in the cell wall called Peptidoglycan, which strengthens the bacteria cell walls, making them easily survive in a human body. Amoxicillin is effective against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp. (except strains producing penicillinase), Streptococcus spp; aerobic gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria Gonorrhoeae, Neisseria Meningitidis, Escherichia Coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp.

Novamox® DT tablets can be either swallowed with a drink of water, or first dispersed in water (5-10 ml), and then swallowed.

The tablets may be broken to ease the swallowing.

Take Novamox® DT at evenly spaced intervals (at least 4 hours apart) – at the same times each day.

Oral RDA (recommended daily allowance):

For adults and children over 10 years (body weight over 40 kg) RDA is 250-500 mg (rarely up to 1 g in case of severe infection).

For children aged 5-10 years, RDA is 250 mg.

For children aged 2-5 years, RDA is 125 mg.

For children aged under 2 years, RDA is 20 mg/kg.

For the treatment of acute uncomplicated Gonorrhea RDA is 3 g once (in combination with probenecid).

General Advice:

Try to consume plenty of fluids while taking Novamox® DT.

Treatment course must continue 48-72 hours after the disappearance of clinical signs of disease, with streptococcal infections – 10 days. Stopping taking Novamox® DT suddenly or too early may not kill bacteria resulting in a return of the infection.

During the treatment course, it is necessary to control the state functions of hematopoiesis, liver and kidneys.

Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Novamox® DT to compensate the missed dose.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
