About Ceflox-D® Eye and Ear Drops

Rating of sales:

Description

Ceflox-D® Eye and Ear Drops are manufactured by Laborate Pharmaceuticals. The key components of the medication are Ciprofloxacin – a second-generation antibiotic from the Fluoroquinolone family with a broad-spectrum activity against susceptible organisms, and Betamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid used as a topical anti-inflammatory agent.

Indications:

- bacterial eye infections (conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, superficial infections of the eye and adnexa) with inflammatory symptoms;

-bacterial ear infections (otitis externa, acute otitis media, chronic suppurative otitis media) with inflammatory symptoms.

Ciprofloxacin is effective against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Proteus mirabilis, Providencia rettgeri, Morganella morganii, Citrobacter diversus, Citrobacter freundii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Streptococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Campylobacter jejuni, Shigella flexneri and Shigella sonnei.

Do not use Ceflox-D® Eye and Ear Drops to treat a viral or fungal infection in the eye or ear.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Ciprofloxacin is a synthetic antimicrobial agent that exhibits its bactericidal action through inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, required for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination. Betamethasone reduces inflammation by stopping cells from releasing the inflammatory chemicals. Specifically, it involves phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, lipocortins, which control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

Dosage

For corneal ulcers: instill 2 drops into the treated eye every 15 minutes for the first 6 hours and then 2 drops into the treated eye every 30 minutes for the remainder of day 1.

Day 2: instill 2 drops in the treated eye hourly.

Day 3 - Day 14: instill 2 drops in the treated eye every 4 hours. Treatment may be continued after 14 days if corneal re-epithelialization has not occurred.

For conjunctivitis: instill 1 or 2 drops instilled into the conjunctival sac(s) every 2 hours, while awake, for 2 days and 1 or 2 drops every 4 hours, while awake, for the next 5 days.

For superficial eye infection: instill 1 or 2 drops in the treated eye(s) 4 times a day. In severe infections, the dosage for the first 2 days may be 1 or 2 drops every 2 hours while awake.

The maximum duration of therapy of 21 days is recommended.

For ear infections: instill 2-3 drops every 2-3 hours initially, reducing the frequency of the instillation with control of infection.
