About Xalacom® Eye Drops

Rating of sales:

Xalacom® Eye Drops are manufactured by Pfizer. The active ingredients comprised in these drops are Latanoprost, a prostaglandin F2a analogue (prostaglandin agonist), and Timolol – a non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist (beta-blocker).

- controlling intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with open-angle glaucoma;

- controlling ocular hypertension (high eye pressure).

Xalacom® Eye Drops are used, either alone or in combination with other medications to lower raised pressure within the eye.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Latanoprost is a prostanoid selective FP receptor agonist that mimics the action of a naturally-occurring prostaglandin (a chemical in the eye, that increases the drainage of the aqueous humour out of the eyeball). As Latanoprost is a synthetic prostaglandin, it acts on the same receptors in the eye as the natural prostaglandins. Therefore, Latanoprost causes an increase in the drainage of aqueous humour out of the eyeball and decreases the pressure within the eye. Timolol is a beta-blocker. By blocking the beta receptors in the eye, it reduces the amount of aqueous humour that is produced. Timolol, therefore, decreases the inflow of aqueous humour into the eyeball and so the pressure within the eye is dropped.

The recommended dose is 1 drop into the treated eye(s) once daily.

Use Xalacom® every day at the same time, preferably in the evening, for as long as your doctor prescribes.

Using Xalacom® Eye Drops at the same time each day will have the best effect on your eye pressure.

Xalacom® aids in controlling your eye condition but does not cure it.

If you accidentally have put several drops into the eye, immediately rinse your eye with warm water.

If you think that you or anyone else may have swallowed Xalacom® drops, immediately contact healthcare provider.

Xalacom® Eye Drops may slowly cause darkening of the eye color, eyelid and eyelashes, and increased growth and thickness of eyelashes. Eye color changes are likely to be permanent.

Xalacom® contains preservative benzalkonium chloride which may be deposited in soft contact lenses. You can put your soft contact lenses back into your eyes 15 minutes after you have used Xalacom®.

If using other eye drops in addition to Xalacom®, wait at least 5 minutes before putting any other drops in your eye(s).

Xalacom® may cause your vision to blur temporarily after you have applied them into your eye. Do not drive or operate machinery until this has worn off.

Xalacom® Eye Drops are associated with allergic reactions, even following a single dose. Discontinue using Xalacom® drops immediately and contact your physician at the first sign of a rash or allergic reaction.

Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with eye, fingers or another source.

Open a new bottle every 4 weeks.

Wash your hands before using the eye drops.
