About Ziprax® Dry Syrup

Rating of sales:

Ziprax® Dry Syrup manufacturer is Cipla. Ziprax® Dry Syrup comprises an active ingredient Cefixime, a semisynthetic, oral third-generation Cephalosporin antibiotic.

- uncomplicated urinary tract infections (e.g. cystitis, cystourethritis, uncomplicated pyelonephritis);

- upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) (e.g. otitis media, pharyngitis and tonsillitis);

- lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) (e.g. acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis);

- uncomplicated Gonorrhoea (cervical/urethral), which can be transmitted by infected mother to a baby during delivery.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Bactericidal action of Cefixime results in inhibition of cell-wall synthesis, which leads to the cell wall rupture and eventually bacteria’s death. Cefixime is active against gram-positive bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes); gram-negative bacteria (Haemophilusinfluenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae). Also, Cefixime has shown clinical efficacy in infections caused by commonly occurring pathogens, including Branhamellacatarrhalis (beta-lactamase-positive and -negative) and Enterobacter species.

Ziprax® Dry Syrup should be reconstituted to form an oral suspension.

1. Shake the bottle to loosen the powder.

2. Stir the dry powder with a boiled and cooled water. Recap the bottle, and shake it vigorously.

3. If necessary, add more water up to the arrow mark and shake again.

The reconstituted suspension should be consumed within 7 days after preparation. Keep it tightly closed. Shake well before each use. Throw away the unused portion after 7 days.

The recommended dose is 8 mg (0,8 ml) /kg/day of the suspension.

This may be administered as a single daily dose or may be given in two divided doses, as 4 mg (0,4 ml)/kg every 12 hours.

Children weighing more than 45 kg or older than 12 years should be treated with the recommended adult dose, 200 to 400 mg (20 to 40 ml of reconstituted suspension) daily depending on the severity of infection).

The usual duration of treatment is 7 days. This may be prolonged up to 14 days if required.

Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Ziprax® Dry Syrup to compensate the missed dose.

Store at a cool temperature between 15 and 20 degrees C (59 and 68 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Keep it tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine in 5 days after reconstitution. Keep out of the reach of children.
