Description
Natrilix® is manufactured by Serdia Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. The drug contains the active ingredient Indapamide, a sulfamyl diuretic with antihypertensive activity, derived from chlorosulphonamide. The medication is used to reduce high blood pressure and edema (swelling), caused by heart, liver, and kidney problems. It functions by removing extra water from the body and lowering blood pressure. Over time it also promotes blood vessels relaxation, improves blood flow and reduces chances of heart attacks and kidney disorders.
Indications:
- management of mild to moderate hypertension;
- edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver, kidney or lung disease;
- management of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (should not be confused with diabetes mellitus or sugar diabetes), followed by abnormal production of urine (polyuria) and constant thirst (polydipsia).
MOA (mechanism of action):
Indapamide, a thiazide-like diuretic, and antihypertensive agent, is rapidly and completely absorbed after oral administration. Like other thiazide-like diuretics, Indapamide inhibits reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions, as well as water, in the Henle loop and in the distal kidney tubules, which leads to their excretion from the body, thus reducing edema, caused by excess fluid trapped in body's tissues. Indapamide's antihypertensive action is exercised in diminished plasma osmolarity and fluid volume in the blood vessels, alongside with a decreased peripheral vascular resistance which promotes a lowering of high blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The drug also has the ability to inhibit calcium ions in smooth muscle cells, thereby causing arteriolar vasodilation in hypertensive patients.

The recommended dose is 2,5 mg per day, taken in the morning. The Natrilix® tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
