Description
Cyclomune® eye drops are manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical. The active substance of this medication is Cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant and selective inhibitor of cytokine production and functioning.
Cyclomune® eye drops are indicated when eyes are not able to produce enough tears due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). Dry eye disease, also called dry eye syndrome (DES) or keratoconjunctivitis sicca, is mostly characterized by dry and easily fatigued eyes, irritation, redness, discharge, blurred vision.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Cyclosporine is a topical calcineurin inhibitor. Diffusing into a T cell (T lymphocyte), Cyclosporine binds to calcineurin, that is responsible for T cells activation. When calcineurin is suppressed, Cyclosporine reduces the number of T lymphocytes thereby blocking immune reactions causing the inflammation. By these actions Cyclosporine cures the ocular inflammation and allows for tear production.
Dosage
Instill one drop into the treated eye(s) 2 times daily with 12 hours interval.
Artificial tears may be used concurrently, allowing a 15-minute interval between administration of products.
