Description
Finast® is manufactured by Dr. Reddy's. Finast® treats BPH along with hair loss in men.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (benign prostatic hypertrophy/prostatic adenoma) is an overgrowth of cells in the central portion of the prostate. This squeezes the urethra, reduces the urine flow and makes it difficult for the patient to void his bladder.
Usual symptoms of BPH are frequent urination, urgency to urinate (compelling need to void that cannot be deferred), involuntary urination, urge incontinence, urinary hesitancy (a delay between trying to urinate and the flow actually beginning), intermittency (not continuous), involuntary interruption of voiding, weak urinary stream etc.
Finast’s® active chemical compound is Finasteride – a type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, which blocks the conversion of testosterone to the potent androgen 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a critical mediator of prostate growth. As the enzymatic conversion of testosterone to DHT is inhibited by Finasteride, a desirable reduction in prostate enlargement is achieved, and urine flow should be improved.
The action of Finasteride is also revealed to be beneficial at halting hair loss in men with MPHL. MPHL is a hereditary condition (also known as androgenetic alopecia or AGA; male pattern baldness or MPB) in which the hair follicles are particularly sensitive to the sex hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Thus, taking Finast® men tackle two problems at a time.
Remember, that it is not recommended to take Finast® to treat MPHL only, as primary hair loss therapy should be provided with 1 mg of Finasteride daily (Finpecia, Proscalpin, Fenered, Finalo,Finax, Propecia).
Besides the aforementioned conditions, Finast® can be effective in the treatment of hirsute females with either PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) or with idiopathic hirsutism.
Finasteride has the same properties as antiandrogens flutamide (non-steroidal antiandrogen or NSAA), spironolactone (potassium-sparing diuretic) and cyproterone acetate (CPA). Flutamide, spironolactone and CPA block the activity of androgens, steroidal hormones responsible for human hair growth. Finasteride in its turn reduces androgen-dependent hair development by hindering 5-alpha-reductase action and the peripheral conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), hence decreases hirsutism in women after 6 months.
Finast® decreases urge to urinate, provides better urine flow with less straining, less of a feeling that the bladder is not completely emptied, and decreased nighttime urination.
