Description
Cobix® capsules contain the active chemical compound Celecoxib - a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is a specific inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) that is induced during the inflammation process and is responsible for the synthesis of inflammatory chemicals called prostaglandins (PG), particularly PGE2.
Cobix® capsules are used to treat chronic inflammatory diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, to reduce pain, inflammation, tenderness, stiffness and swelling in the affected joints.
Cobix® is also used for the management of acute pain and treatment of dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain) in people who have not been able to achieve sufficient pain relief from other medications.
This drug should be combined with well balanced but calorie controlled diet rich in fruits, nuts and vegetables.
Cobix® is also known as Celecoxib, Celebra, Celebrex, Celcoxx, Selecap.
Dosage
Cobix® is taken orally with a full glass of water. The medication can be taken either with or without food.
For treatment of rheumatoid arthritis usual Cobix® dosage is 100-200 mg twice a day.
For treatment of osteoarthritis usual Cobix® dosage is 100 mg twice a day or 200 mg once a day.
For treatment of painful menstruation usual Cobix® dosage is 400 mg once a day at the first day of treatment. When needed, the dosage of 400 mg can be divided into double dose and can be taken twice a day.
For treatment of FAP usual Cobix® dosage 400 mg twice a day.
If you want to achieve most effective results do not stop taking Cobix® suddenly.
To decrease the risk of an upset stomach, take Cobix® with a glass of milk or a meal and a full glass of water.
If the patient cannot swallow the capsule whole, the contents may be opened and sprinkled into a spoonful of applesauce to make swallowing easier.
Cobix® dosage depends on patient's overall health and other factors.
Missing a dose
Do not take a double dose. If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about the missed dose. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose:
- lack of energy
- drowsiness and stomach pain
- nausea and vomiting
- hives and rashes
- vomiting material that is bloody or looks like coffee grounds
- bloody or black, tarry stools
- loss of consciousness
If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
