Supatret® Gel is manufactured by Sun Pharma. This is a topical medication for acne (also known as acne vulgaris). It has anti-inflammatory and exfoliating properties. Applied to the acne-prone skin, Supatret® Gel reduces the number of breakouts and unclogs blocked pores. The active substance of this gel is Tretinoin, vitamin A (retinol) derivative of retinoid class.

Acne is a long-term inflammatory skin condition caused by an overgrowth of P. acnes (Propionibacterium acnes) in the skin. When there is too much sebum (skin oil) produced, it mixes with dead skin cells residue and clogs pores. The clogged pore is a positive environment for P. acnes proliferation. Our immune system responds to the abnormal amount of P. acnes with acne progression. Symptoms of this condition are comedones, whiteheads, pimples, cysts, and scarring. Genetic predisposition and increase in androgen hormones are among the most common reasons of acne.

Supatret® Gel in higher dosage (0.1%) is used to treat photoaging, fine wrinkles, and facial skin roughness. It is also can be used off-label to treat melasma, actinic keratosis, ichthyosis, keloids, and keratosis follicularis.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Tretinoin is a comedolytic, keratolytic, and anti-inflammatory agent. It fights acne by unclogging blocked pores, where P. acnes bacteria grow and live. In particular, it modifies the abnormal follicular keratinization and promotes the turnover rate of dead epithelial cells (constituents of the outermost skin layer). With the exfoliation of keratinized skin cells, the content of blocked pores releases and acne-causing bacteria have no longer an environment to proliferate in, therefore inflammation starts decreasing and disappears with time. Tretinoin also makes epithelial cells divide faster causing the comedones to be pushed out of the blocked pores more rapidly.

Supatret® Gel is for external use only. Do not apply to your eyes, mouth, inside of the nose, private parts, and any other mucosal surface.

Supatret® Gel is normally applied 1-2 times daily, usually for 6-8 weeks at least. In case your acne has not improved after 8 weeks of treatment, discontinue the Supatret® Gel use and seek medical advice.
