About Novamox®

Rating of sales:

Novamox® manufacturer is Cipla.

Novamox® active ingredient is Amoxicillin – a semisynthetic antibiotic belonging to the drug class called Aminopenicillins, bactericidal beta-lactam antibiotics, which work by blocking bacterial cell wall synthesis.

- infections of the ear, nose, and throat;

- genitourinary tract infections (urethritis);

- skin and soft tissue infections;

- lower respiratory tract infections;

- Gonorrhea, acute uncomplicated (ano-genital and urethral infections);

- Helicobacter Pylori eradication to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence.

Novamox® will not be effective for viral infections like common cold or flu, or for yeast infection.

Amoxicillin can be used for the treatment of other conditions in combination with:

Clavulanic Acid for bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, infections of the gastrointestinal tract, gynecological infections, infections of the skin and soft tissue, listeria, leptospirosis, gonorrhea.

Metronidazole for chronic gastritis in acute, peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer in acute, associated with Helicobacter Pylori.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Amoxicillin kills the bacteria by destroying their cell wall. Namely, it prevents the synthesis of a substance in the cell wall called Peptidoglycan, which strengthens the bacteria cell walls, making them easily survive in a human body. Amoxicillin is effective against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp. (except strains producing penicillinase), Streptococcus spp; aerobic gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria Gonorrhoeae, Neisseria Meningitidis, Escherichia Coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp.

Novamox® capsules are taken orally (by mouth) with or after food to prevent stomach upset.

The maximum daily dose is 6 g given in divided doses.

Adults including the elderly:

The usual dose of Amoxicillin Capsules is 250 mg three times a day.

For more severe infections this may be doubled to 500 mg three times a day.

High doses may be used in the following conditions:

For severe or recurrent chest infections a dose of 3 g twice daily given orally is usually recommended.

For simple urinary tract infections an adult dose of two 3 g doses given orally with 10 to 12 hours between doses (short course).

For the treatment of dental abscesses two 3 g doses given orally with 8 hours between doses is recommended.

For Gonorrhea a single 3 g dose given orally is recommended.

Take Novamox® exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Children under 40 kg able to swallow capsules:

All doses are worked out depending on the child's body weight in kilograms.

The recommended daily dose – 40 mg to 90 mg per kg of body weight, given in two or three divided doses.

Consult your doctor what Novamox® dose you should give to your child.

General Advice:

Try to consume plenty of fluids while taking Novamox®.

Take Novamox® at evenly spaced intervals – at the same times each day.

Treatment course must continue 48-72 hours after the disappearance of clinical signs of disease, with streptococcal infections – 10 days. Stopping taking Novamox® suddenly or too early may not kill bacteria resulting in a return of the infection.

During the treatment course it is necessary to control the state functions of hematopoiesis, liver and kidneys.

If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Novamox® to compensate the missed dose.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
