For children:
The dosage is dependent upon the child's weight. In treatment of otitis media, take Zithromax for 1-5 days.
For adults:
To treat pneumonia or throat/tonsil infection, the recommended dose is two 250 mg tablets on the first day and then one 250 mg tablet once a day for 4 more days.
For the prevention of MAC (mycobacterium avium complex), the recommended dosage of Zithromax is 1,200 mg per week.
For the treatment of skin or infections, the recommended dosage is two 250 mg tablets on the first day and one 250 mg tablet for another 4 days.
Zithromax is used only when needed, therefore missed dosages are not relevant. Do not exceed the doctor's recommended dose.
If you take an overdose of Zithromax you should visit your doctor or health care provider immediately. Symptoms of Zithromax overdosage include discomfort in the stomach, diarrhea, retching and nausea.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not use Zithromax if you are allergic to azithromycin and other macrolides.
Do not take Zithromax at the same time as taking antacids containing magnesium or aluminum.

If you have liver or kidney disease, Long QT syndrome or heart rhythm problems, consult your doctor before taking Zithromax.
Exercise caution if you are also taking cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin), terfenadine (Seldane), digoxin (Lanoxin), dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45, Migranal), ergotamine (Ergomar), phenytoin (Dilantin), medications that suppress your immune system, nelfinavir (Viracept).
Exercise caution with Zithromax usage if you are allergic to erythromycin (E.E.S., E-Mycin, Erythrocin), dirithromycin (Dynabac), clarithromycin (Biaxin) or azithromycin.
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight as Zithromax makes skin sensitive to sunlight. Take care to protect skin from the sun.
It can be dangerous to stop taking Zithromax suddenly.
