About Cerazette®

Rating of sales:

Description

Cerazette® is manufactured by Organon.

Cerazette® contains an active compound Desogestrel, which is similar to the natural female sex hormone progestogen.

Desogestrel is a third generation progestin which has a favorable effect on a lipid profile and is twice as potent as contraception pills with Levonorgestrel. Desogestrel provides high efficacy with fewer side effects.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Desogestrel works primarily by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary (stops ovulation). It also increases the thickness of the natural mucus at the neck of the womb, making it more difficult for sperm to reach the womb. This minimizes the successful fertilization of any egg that is released. Desogestrel also changes the quality of the womb lining (endometrium). This prevents the attaching of a fertilized egg onto the womb, thereby preventing pregnancy.

Dosage

Cerazette® tablets must be taken on a regular basis, at the same time every day.

Cerazette® tablets are taken without a break, including when you are having a period.

It is recommended to start taking Cerazette® on the first day of your period..

If necessary, you can also start taking it up to day five of your cycle without needing to use an additional contraceptive when you start.

In case you have a short menstrual cycle (with your period coming every 23 days or less), starting as late as the fifth day of your cycle may not provide you with immediate contraceptive protection..

If you start taking Cerazette® at any other time in your cycle, you will need to use additional contraception, e.g. condoms for the first two days of taking Cerazette®.

If you start taking Cerazette® on day 21 after delivery, you are protected against pregnancy immediately and do not need to use extra contraception.

If you start taking it later than 21 days after delivery, you should use extra contraception for the first two days.

If you start Cerazette® immediately after a miscarriage or abortion at under 24 weeks, you will be protected against pregnancy immediately.

If you start taking it more than seven days after the miscarriage or abortion, you should use extra contraception for the first two days of pill taking.

If you are less than 12 hours late in taking your next dose or if you vomit, or use medical charcoal within 3 - 4 hours or have severe diarrhea, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember and take the next one at the usual time.

Missing a dose

If you are more than twelve hours late taking your Cerazette® daily dose, you will not be protected against pregnancy. You should use a back-up contraception, e.g. condoms, for the next two days, while continuing your regular dosing schedule.

Overdose

If an overdose occurs and you are feeling unwell, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
