Description
Budez® CR is a medication of the corticosteroid type manufactured by Sun Pharma. It contains the active ingredient Budesonide, a glucocorticosteroid that has potent anti-inflammatory activity and is used to treat mild to moderate Crohn's disease (inflammatory disease of the bowel) affecting the end of the small intestine (ileum) and the start of the large intestine (ascending colon). Budez® CR helps maintain the remission Crohn's disease and also assists in its the induction in people with active ulcerative or microscopic colitis. Budesonide capsules are designed to release their contents gradually in the last part of the small bowel (the ileum) and the first part of the large bowel. Besides mild to moderate Crohn's disease, Budez® CR is used for the management of asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), reducing such symptoms like wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and tightness in the chest, allowing the
air to go into and out of the lungs, thus making it easier to breath. Budez® CR capsules should not be used in an acute episode of asthma where intensive measures are needed.
Indications:
- asthma;
- COPD;
- mild to moderate active Crohn's disease;
- ulcerative colitis;
- microscopic colitis.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Budez® CR improves the patient’s condition by reducing swelling and inflammation in the throat, lungs or intestine. It works by shrinking swollen and inflamed tissues blocking the action of certain cells and chemicals of the immune system. Budesonide controls the rate of protein synthesis, depresses the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, fibroblasts, reverses capillary permeability and lysosomal stabilization at the cellular level to prevent or control inflammation.
Dosage
Budez® CR is to be taken orally by mouth with an ample amount of water. Is advised to take the medicine once or twice a day before or after having a meal as prescribed by the doctor. Do not crush or chew the capsule, it should be swallowed whole.
The use and dosage for the asthma management and COPD should be prescribed for every patient individually.
For active Crohn's disease (mild to moderate):
Adult dose: 9 mg once a day in the morning for up to 8 weeks.
Children (6 – 12 years):
- weighing more than 25 kg (55 lbs) - at first, 9 mg once a day in the morning for up to 8 weeks, followed by 6 mg once a day in the morning for 2 weeks.
- weighing 25 kg (55 lbs) or less – the use and dose must be determined by a doctor.
The dosage and length of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to treatment and should be prescribed for every patient individually. The medicine usually shows its full effect within 2 to 4 weeks of administration. You should continue to take Budez® CR capsules even if you start feeling better. The dose should be reduced gradually before treatment is withdrawn.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose of Budez® CR you should take it as soon as you remember. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not exceed the doctor’s recommended dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are feeling unwell, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not freeze the capsules.
