Description
Azicip® manufacturer is Cipla.
Azicip® contains the main chemical compound called Azithromycin, a bacteriostatic, macrolide-type antibiotic belonging to the group azalide.
Indications:
- acute otitis media caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis or Streptococcus pneumoniae;
- sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis or Streptococcus pneumoniae;
- acute bronchitis caused by Chlamydia pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Streptococcus pneumoniae;
- community-acquired pneumonia due to Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Streptococcus pneumoniae in patients appropriate for oral therapy;
- uncomplicated skin and soft tissues infections (e.g. furunculosis, pyoderma and impetigo due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus agalactiae);
- uncomplicated genital infections (in adolescents and older children) (e.g., urethritis and cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis).
Azicip® is not effective against viral infections (e.g. common cold. flu) and yeast infections.
Azicip® is used to prevent heart infection in people having dental or other procedures. Azicip® also has immunomodulatory effects in chronic inflammatory disorders, including diffuse panbronchiolitis, post-transplant bronchiolitis and rosacea.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Azithromycin binds to a site on the 50s subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thus inhibiting the translocation steps of protein synthesis. In other words, Azithromycin works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Dosage
Azicip® tablets can be taken with or without food. Azicip® tablets should be taken with half a glass of water.
Adults, children weighing over 45 kg.
The recommended dose: 500 mg as a single dose on the first day, followed by 250 mg once daily on the second day through 5 days. Alternatively, 500 mg once daily for 3 days.
For acute bacterial sinusitis: 500 mg once daily for 3 days.
For genital ulcer disease (chancroid), non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis: one single dose 1000 mg.
For gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis: one single dose 2000 mg.
For Chlamydia: one single dose 1000 mg.
Children, adolescents weighing under 45 kg.
The Azicip® tablets are not recommended. Young people with a body weight of less than 45 kg should use other forms of Azithromycin administration.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Azicip® to compensate the missed dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
