Description
Levoflox® manufacturer is Cipla.
Levoflox® tablets contain active ingredient is Levofloxacin, which belongs to a 3rd generation Fluoroquinolone antibiotics (or Quinolones).
Indications:
- sinuses infections;
- respiratory tract (sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia);
- urinary tract, including your kidneys or bladder infections (pyelonephritis);
- prostate gland infections;
- skin and soft tissue infections (skin and underneath the skin, including muscles).
Levoflox® treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu) and yeast infections.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Levofloxacin enters bacterial cells and interferes with their DNA. It destroys the DNA and does not allow the bacteria and protozoa to form new genetic material. This ultimately results in death of microorganisms, which gets rid of the infection.
Dosage
Swallow Levoflox® tablets whole with a plenty of water.
Levoflox® tablets may be taken during meals or anytime between meals.
For adults and the elderly:
Sinus infections: 1 tablet of Levoflox® 500 mg once a day.
Infections of the bronchia in patients with chronic respiratory disorders: 1 tablet of Levoflox® 500 mg once a day.
Pneumonia: 1 tablet of Levoflox® 500 mg once or twice a day.
Infections of the urinary tract, including kidneys and bladder: 1/2 tablet of Levoflox® 500 mg once a day.
Infections of the prostate gland: 1 tablet of Levoflox® 500 mg once a day.
Infections of the skin and tissue underneath the skin, including muscles: 1 tablet of Levoflox® 500 mg once or twice a day.
Levoflox® is not permitted to be given to children and adolescents under 12 years of age.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Levoflox® to compensate the missed dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
