Description
The medication is manufactured by Digital Vision Pharma and marketed by Johnlee Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. Hydrocl® belongs to a class of drugs known as thiazide diuretics and contains the active ingredient Hydrochlorothiazide that works by causing the kidneys to remove excess salt and water which decreases the risk of fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen. This medication is also used for the management of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, caused by the inability of kidneys to respond to antidiuretic hormone (ADH). Hydrocl® helps treat high blood pressure (hypertension), lowering the risks of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
Indications:
- management of hypertension (either as the sole therapeutic agent or to enhance the effectiveness of other antihypertensive drugs in the more severe forms of hypertension);
- fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen;
- alternative oral agent for management of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (should not be confused with diabetes mellitus or sugar diabetes), followed by abnormal production of urine (polyuria) and constant thirst (polydipsia);
- treatment of osteoporosis (an increased bone weakness that may lead to a broken bone).
MOA (mechanism of action):
The active substance Hydrochlorothiazide works by causing the kidneys to remove extra water and salt from the blood and pass it out through the urine. By increasing the amount of water removed from the blood, the medicine promotes the reduction in blood volume, thus lowering blood pressure. By getting rid of unneeded water from the body, Hydrochlorothiazide helps diminish swelling and water retention. Hydrocl® reduces polyuria in patients with diabetes insipidus, thereby diminishing water delivery to the ADH-sensitive sites in the collecting tubules and increasing urine osmolarity. Hydrochlorothiazide, like other thiazides, tends to increase the reabsorption of calcium, decreasing mineral bone loss and promoting differentiation of osteoblasts, which is beneficial for the osteoporosis treatment.
