Description
Melalong® Cream is manufactured by Ajanta. This is a dermatological medication for hyperpigmentation, also called melasma, chloasma, liver spots, age spots, and freckles. It contains Mequinol and Tretinoin as active ingredients.
Hyperpigmentation is characterized by brownish coloring of random areas of the skin. This skin condition occurs due to the overproduction of melanin, a pigment naturally produced in human body. Hyperpigmentation is associated with genetic predisposition, aging, pregnancy, taking birth control pills and other hormonal medications, exposure to sunlight, skin trauma, hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone), and dermal inflammation.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Mequinol is a phenol (also known as carbolic acid) organic compound. It is toxic against the cells producing melanin called melanocytes. With inhibition of melanin formation, darkened areas of the skin start coming back to its normal color.
Tretinoin regulates cell production and differentiation binding to specific retinoic acid receptors. It promotes skin cells renewal exfoliating the old epithelial cells and promoting the growth of new ones. Thus, Tretinoin facilitates the lightening of the skin.
