Also known as:
Orlistat.
Description
Xenical is created by pharmacists to help people with a body mass index (BMI) greater or equal to 30 kg/m² or with BMI greater or equal to 28 kg/m² when associated risk factors to tackle obesity.
The active ingredient of Xenical is Orlistat, which belongs to lipase inhibitors. It prevents absorption of some fat from the intestines, removes this fat from the body in stools thereby reducing weight gain.
Note, that while taking Xenical, it is recommended to be on a nutritionally balanced, low-calorie diet that contains approximately 30% of calories from fat.
Xenical is also used in overweight people who suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and in heart patients.
The goal of Xenical is to help to get rid of excess fat in the body and to stop weight gain after losing weight.
Dosage
Xenical is taken orally 3 times a day during the main meal or up to 1 hour after the meal.
The diet of the patient should include three main meals, containing the daily dose of fat, carbohydrate, and protein.
The daily intake of fat should be no more than 30% of your total daily caloric intake (e.g., eating 1200 calories per day, no more than 360 of those calories should be in the form of fat).
The dose of Xenical should be omitted if a meal is missed or does not contain fat.
Treatment with Xenical should not continue for more than 6 months and should be stopped after 12 weeks if patient has been unable to lose at least 5 % of the body weight.
If you lose enough weight for your BMI to fall below 28 kg/m², Xenical can no longer be supplied.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not exceed the doctor's recommended dose.
