Description
Proscare® tablets are produced by Fortune Healthcare. Proscare® raw material is Finasteride – a type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.
Indications:
- BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia) – is a non-cancerous overgrowth of the prostate, which squeezes the urethra, reduces the urine flow and makes it difficult for the patient to void the bladder;
- MPHL (male pattern hair loss), which can be improved only alongside the BPH treatment with Finasteride.
Off label use of Finasteride shows efficacy in female hirsutism associated with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) or with idiopathic hirsutism.
Proscare® is not a first-line therapy for MPHL, as hair loss treatment should be provided with 1 mg of Finasteride (Propesteride®, Finpecia®, Proscalpin®, Fenered®, Finalo®, Finax®, Propecia®).
MOA (mechanism of action):
Finasteride blocks the conversion of testosterone to the potent androgen 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a critical mediator of prostate growth. As the enzymatic conversion of testosterone to DHT is inhibited by Finasteride, a desirable reduction in prostate enlargement is achieved, and urine flow should be improved.
DHT is known to be a key factor for follicle death and hence for the loss of hair. Finasteride has a trichogenic activity (growth of hair). It blocks the action of 5-alpha reductase enzyme, which is responsible for the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Due to inhibiting of this enzyme, Finasteride lowers scalp and serum DHT concentrations (up to 60%) and slows down the complete hair loss process.
Dosage
For the treatment of BPH:
Take one tablet orally (by mouth) once a day, with or without food.
You should take the Finast® at the same time every day.
Take Finast® daily for at least 6 months or more if necessary before any noticeable results occur.
If Finast® has not worked for you over a 12 months course then it is unlikely that further treatment will benefit.
Do not stop taking Finast® suddenly, as any therapeutic benefits will be reversed.
Always consult your doctor or pharmacist if you want to stop the treatment before time or if you are intended to prolong treatment.
For male pattern hair loss:
Take one tablet (Finasteride 1 mg) orally (by mouth) once a day, with or without food.
You should take Finasteride tablets at the same time every day.
In general, daily use for 3 months or more may be necessary before you notice increased hair growth or prevention of further loss.
Continue taking tablets for as long as your doctor prescribes.
Always consult your doctor or pharmacist if you want to stop the treatment before time or if you are intended to prolong treatment.
Missing a dose
If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not exceed the doctor's recommended dose.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are feeling unwell, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
